The monthly advance retail sales report for the US is due out Wednesday, Feb. 17, but in the meantime, we have a report from Mastercard that indicates strong growth in January, normally a retrenchment month for consumer spending. Mastercard reported overall retail sales through its cardholders, excluding automobiles and gasoline, rose 9.2% year-over-year this January….
